In 2012 the U.S. National Science Foundation awarded a grant to the AAG for GeoCapabilities. This was a pilot project conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Education in London and the University of Helsinki to establish a theoretical framework for teacher training based on three concepts: human capability development, powerful disciplinary knowledge, and curriculum making. The Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education provided the external evaluation, which together with the AAG has since become a partner in the project under the auspices of the National Center for Research in Geography Education. More information is available on the GeoCapabilities website.
