NCRGE spearheaded an international collaborative effort to plan, design, and develop an international geography assessment modeled on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study. Our partner organizations include GENIP, Western Michigan University, ETS, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, and the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center at Boston College.
On 8 October, 2019, Joe Stoltman and Michael Solem presented a proposal for the international geography assessment at the 2019 IEA General Assembly in Slovenia. The IEA GA consists of representatives from ministries of education, known as National Research Coordinators (NRCs), who make decisions about IEA policies and future IEA projects. Following the presentation, five countries indicated support for the geography proposal. Further consideration of the geography proposal was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The
